Key Details

The (Blended Learning) Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training and the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training has been designed for learners to remotely gain teacher status in the post 16 sector.

In the current climate, this is the perfect course allowing unqualified teachers to study from home and work towards becoming fully qualified and applying for QTLS.

What's Involved

By doing this course you will become a trainer in your specialist area and will be qualified to teach up to Level 5 courses, along with the Level 4 course. You can apply for the QTLS after completing this distance learning Level 5 & 4 combined Diploma and Certificate course.

See below for more details.

What is the benefit of studying the combination course?

  • Accumulate credit points which would allow you to increase your chances of entering the University you wish.
  • Our online Level 5 Diploma in Education course leads to Fully Qualified Teacher Status or QTLS with the Society for Education and Training.
  • This qualifies teachers or trainers to teach across a wide range of FE, HE institutions, Colleges, Training Providers etc in the UK and abroad.
  • The units in the Level 5 Diploma in E&T overlap and can be used to claim exemption from a variety of Learning & Development and Education & Training qualifications, for example, the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance Qualifications and the Level 4 External Quality Assurance Qualifications.

The course is assessed via a combination of written assignments and practical portfolio evidence from your current teaching role.

The theoretical assignments require you to analyse theories of teaching and learning, linking them to your own teaching practice and evaluating your own practice. Our electronic presentations with video links and accompanying sources will guide you through each unit step by step.

The practical element requires you to compile an e-portfolio of your current teaching practice. This includes logging 100 hours of teaching and 16 lesson observations (8 hours for the Level 5 Diploma and 8 hours for the Level 4 Certificate). The observations need to be observed by a qualified teacher.

What's in it for you?

The aim of achieving the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training and the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is to achieve teacher status in this sector. However, the purpose of the course is to develop you as a teacher on the pathway to this status. You will be encouraged to reflect on your current teaching practice both in a theoretical concept and in a practical setting. Regular observations and self-evaluations will ensure you consider your strengths and weaknesses as a teacher, developing new styles and resources as you progress through the course.

Learners will achieve the nationally accredited Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. This qualification is Ofqual regulated and on the Qualifications and Credits Framework (VTCT).

In addition, upon successful completion of the course you will be able to apply for QTLS through the Society for Education and Training, giving you parity with secondary and primary school teachers.

What will I learn?

You will undertake the Level 4 and 5 combined with a range of units. Some of these are:

Unit 1 - Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training

Unit 2 - Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training

Unit 3 - Theories, principles and models in education and training

Unit 4 - Wider professional practice in education and training

Unit 5 - Teaching in a Specialist Area

Unit 6 - Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area

Unit 7 - Inclusive Practice

Unit 8 - Assessing Learning in Education & Training (from Level 4)

Unit 9 - Managing Learning & Development in Groups (from Level 4)

Who's it for?

The course is for anyone currently teaching that is looking to achieve teacher status in the post 16 sector. This pathway and suite of qualifications are designed to be flexible, which might mean you are not necessarily teaching in the traditional classroom or school environment. It can also be studied around your other work and life commitments, which is often much more difficult in many other traditional teacher training programmes.

The teaching hours you log as part of your practical evidence can come from the primary, secondary or post 16 sector environments. They can also be in a paid or voluntary role.
